This is about a 13 minute documentary-style film from PBS about the world’s largest shopping mall, in some out of the way province in China, with no major city or airport anywhere near it, built based on the dreams of some local guy (it doesn’t really say how he got the power and backing to get this thing off the ground, but it begins to make some sense of how the Chinese came be such huge investors and partners in the blue-sky financial schemes of the U.S., if they willingly partake in dreams of madness like this one….) Well worth the short bit of time to watch, if only to see sheer lunacy at work:

Again, lunacy, pure and simple…I know American entrepreneurs and financiers have partaken in that similiar “build it and they will come” mentality, but up until recently, somehow Americans had the financial means to spend the money to get “there” (Disney, Mall of the Americas, Times Square, Vegas, all those home-grown profit centers in otherwise outbacks and deadwaters, where no one in their right mind would probably go unless some outrageous megalopolis had been “created” from thin, dollar-laden air….) But, the Chinese, with practically no middle-class to draw from, had to be on LSD to do this…and I thought these guys, with their mono-maniacal, intense educations, their study of the failings of Western empire, their rejection of our wasteful Western ideals and morés and whatnot, surely wouldn’t fall for our most outlandish schemes…and yet, they did…
Of course, their saving grace is their mountainous build up of Treasuries and dollars and accumulation of commodities so that they can still be financial powerhouses and engines of manufacture…or are those things graces? Treasuries increasingly seem like ghosts of value, based on the value of things American, which fades day by day…if you own commodities and raw materials necessary to build “things” to sell, yet there are no customers, no one to buy those “things”, not even your own people, what do you really have?
I am no economist, no financial wizard, I can’t see into the future, nor make even a hazardous guess what may come, but it does seem the way things have been done for the last 50-60 years, since the end of WWII, are over, and the way things will be done in the future are going to change dramatically….the how dramatic, that is the question…

Citing a statistic that 44,789 Americans die each year because they don’t have health insurance, Grayson said, “That is more than ten times the number of Americans who died in the war in Iraq, it’s more than ten times the number of Americans who died on 9/11. …It happens every year.”
Grayson added in another apparent dig at the GOP, “We should care about people even after they are born.”
Grayson apologized one last time.
“I apologize to the dead and their families that we haven’t voted sooner,” he said.
“I don’t think the Democrats need to be on defense,” Grayson told reporters. “I think we should be on the offense and not the defense, and that’s where I plan to stay.”
ME: Now this is the most honest thing I think have ever heard from a politician! I almost believe I am dreaming, and for a Republican to have said it, and not backtrack, and not ask Rush for forgiveness, and not apologize for recognizing and calling out one of the most disgraceful statistics and facts (after torture, war crimes and the like, of course…) about life in Amurika, is even more astounding!!!
That one line: “We should care about people even after they are born” has been my iteration, my war cry, my greatest point of focus, over these self-righteous christofascist anti-abortionists who are pro-death penalty, anti-healthcare for everyone…Why does the caring stop once the afterbirth hits the floor? These poor single Moms, typically teenagers, with no job and no skills and probably no husband, forced to bear children, and for what purpose? Because they love God so much? What does one have to do with the other? Shouldn’t these anti-abortionists be showing up at all the adoption agencies and homeless children facilities there are and taking in all of the unwanted ones, the retarded, the too-old, the abused with behavioral problems, etc., instead of standing outside abortion clinics waving their signs, intimidating those pregnant children, or fire-bombing clinics and killing doctors who perform abortions?
It makes no fucking sense how you can claim life begins at conception, human life has so much value and you don’t support healthcare, you are for the death penalty and are pro-war…the dichotomy there is surreal in its reality….
At least Rep. Alan Grayson has the fucking balls to call a spade a spade…more so than a lot of our so-called liberal Democratic representatives….that is the biggest pack of captured, paid-off pussies I have ever seen…

The Army grants the officer’s resignation under “other than honorable conditions.”
First Lt. Ehren Watada, the first commissioned military officer to refuse deployment to Iraq because he believed it was an illegal war, has won his three-year legal battle with the Army.
With little fanfare the Army at Fort Lewis, Wash., accepted the resignation of the 1996 Kalani High School graduate, and he will be discharged the first week in October.
Rather than seek a second court-martial against the artillery officer, the Army will grant Watada a discharge under “other than honorable conditions.”

ME: what a great victory for those young men and women willing to stand up and call BULLSHIT on this senseless, criminal act of aggression against another country who didn’t attack us and wasn’t a threat to us, but only had something we wanted: oil.
Sadly, I see Watada was discharged under ‘other than honorable conditions’, which means a loss of any benefits he accrued during his military service and doesn’t look real good on a resume, but he stood up for his principles and showed others there is another way forward and another truth other than the ‘official’ one, the ‘bullshit’ one that all the mouth breather’s, birther’s, tenther’s, teabagger’s and who-all who buy in to and willingly send their sons and daughters off to die for Bu$hco….
I know there are other litigations similar to this one in the pipeline so this win for Watada bodes well for those others who refuse to be the muscle/hitman for the Corporate Armed Forces of America….Might as legalize mercenary armies and let the Corporatocracy pay their hired hitmen and war fighters like Blackwater/Xe, Dyncorp, Aegis and all the other undercover murderer’s to do their dirty work out in the open….sadly, we Orwellian-ize this bullshit and say we are ‘liberating’ these poor fuckers who didn’t want any ‘liberatin”, granting them ‘freedom from oppression’ when really we are giving our corporations the opportunity/right to ‘freely oppress and enslave’ them….

But, like good Germans, we stand by and watch as the ‘terrorist/bad guy du jour’ is paraded before us, villified for some thought-crime or some other trumped up charge or crime (which was probably committed by the accusor…) and we accept it, cheer for ‘our side’ as we go after that person, his family and his entire race, country and civilization and pound it into dust with our vastly superior tech and fire-power until there is nothing left, no place for survivors to maintain even the ‘idea’ of normal life, where land and water and air are be-fouled by toxic gases and chemicals from our bombs as we continuously blast anything that moves from our radio-controlled unmanned hellfire missiled drone planes and our ‘boots on the ground’ roll across the country-side, running civilians off the road if they don’t just shoot them dead to begin with, mistreating and psychologically beating down these innocents until we turn them into either maddened, death-crazed martyrs bent on revenge or shattered shells of humanity, too beaten down to have the energy to take their own life….and like good Germans, we only hope we aren’t next, better ‘them’ than us….
However, there is always that one difference that separates the ‘They’ from the ‘Us’ is the wealth factor, whether black, brown, yellow or white….the They have money and can afford their own personal militias and fully comprehend and realize that difference, that separation from Us and know, in their heart-of-hearts that, when push comes to shove, someone will have to go and the one with the most and best guns and bullets wins, so naturally the one with the most money to buy the most guns, bullets, safe rooms, mansion/fortresses, private jets and helicopters, underground fuel storage, generators, emergency rations, insider connections, well, that person will most likely prevail at the end of the day…
Much is made of the local splinter groups, the right-wing nutjobs, the birthers, the white supremecists, the anti-government crowd, the anti-tax crowd, and these are portrayed as ‘people to fear’, but these are all fringe people, small groups with little or no real organization, while the They are organized (think CFR, Tri-Laterals, Bilderbergers, G8, G20, all the power in the world concentrated in the hands of probably less than 500 people…) and the They doesn’t have to know how fire a gun, re-load, live off the land because they can pay others to do all that for them!!! They don’t have to soil their hands with boots-on-the-ground know-how and ability to perform the clean-up operations; that’s what the hired help is for…
I am way digressing from my praise for Lt. Watada and his courtroom victory but the sheer fact of the victory and what it stands for leads to further thought and future planning, given what this victory means…more and more the Iraq War, and now even possibly Afghanistan, are being seen as criminal enterprises and some power people may have to answer for their actions…I doubt that but here is further food for thought- Iraq was invaded for its oil, Afghanistan was attacked and invaded for a potential pipeline from the ‘Stans down into Pakistan (in order to bypass Russia; that was behind the recent turmoil in Georgia – major oil pipeline transhipment point…)
But also, the world is unsustainably over-populated, with many 4th and 3rd world countries wanting entreé into the 1st and 2nd world, with all of its trappings of leisure and good eating (China, India and Pakistan are the leading contenders and the worst offenders of poor planning and worst abuse of the environment in order to achieve/sustain what the West/U.S. has had for decades…achieved by cheating/over-lording those same countries for those same decades….) and this planet just cannot provide this for them, or continue to provide it for the West/1st world….the beef on the hoof that now everyone feels is their birthrate to have as a food staple is THE chief contributor to global warming gases and leading consumer of grains grown to get that beef on the hoof to market so everyone can have their burgers and steaks…we all piss and moan about cars and factories destroying our ecology, yet it is really the economy of scale, which has grown so vast, far out-stripping what the natural earth, in balance, can provide….fish stocks are crashing all over the world, agri-business has turned most food production into mono-cultures of just a few staples, with no variety, and due to GMO Frankenfoodery, who knows just how nutritious and healthy those few vegetable items we see in the grocery stores actually are….
It seems a global die-off is inevitable, and probably necessary….there are just too many fucking people and, oddly, with all of the wars going on at any one time, with the various famines happening here and there around the world, with more and more people dying each year from toxic reaction to the toxic environment they live it, it still isn’t enough and the world population just keeps growing….strange….yet, I feel, we are reaching a tipping point, and the die-offs will start to occur in scales not seen since maybe the Flu outbreak of the early 1900’s…I doubt from these stupid flu scares that keep coming, that is just insurance, health and Big Pharma trying to make a buck, but I think even more exotic things will occur, super-storms, solar radiation, bigger famines as more sources of food dry-up or become inaccessible, other strange and even more virulent viruses (think Ebola, etc…) I think the Earth is self-correcting and Earth/Galactic timescale is incomprehensible to the average human who, due to indoctrination via the Propaganda Box, can’t remember last year, much less comprehend the couple of decades of life as we know it that are probably left to be lived before the fat lady sings…long post, way off point from the beginning, done.

The Bank for International Settlements is for the first time proposing the world’s central banks take over the financial risk of the entire mountain of more than one quadrillion one hundred and forty four trillion dollars (valuation before the change to “value to maturity” method valuation of nominal value of OTC derivatives) of OTC derivatives created from 1991 to 2008.

INTRODUCTION: Research has demonstrated the association between vaginal orgasm and better mental health. Some theories of psychotherapy assert a link between muscle blocks and disturbances of both character and sexual function. In Functional-Sexological therapy, one focus of treatment is amelioration of voluntary movement. The present study examines the association of general everyday body movement with history of vaginal orgasm. AIM: The objective was to determine if appropriately trained sexologists could infer women’s history of vaginal orgasm from observing only their gait. METHODS: Women with known histories of either vaginal orgasm or vaginal anorgasmia were videotaped walking on the street, and their orgasmic status was judged by sexologists blind to their history. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE: The concordance between having had orgasms triggered by penile-vaginal intercourse (not orgasm from direct clitoral stimulation) and raters’ inferences of vaginal orgasm history based on observation of the woman’s walk was the main outcome measure. RESULTS: In the sample of healthy young Belgian women (half of whom were vaginally orgasmic), history of vaginal orgasm (triggered solely by penile-vaginal intercourse) was diagnosable at far better than chance level (81.25% correct, Fisher’s Exact Test P < 0.05) by appropriately trained sexologists. Clitoral orgasm history was unrelated to both ratings and to vaginal orgasm history. Exploratory analyses suggest that greater pelvic and vertebral rotation and stride length might be characteristic of the gait of women who have experienced vaginal orgasm (r = 0.51, P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The discerning observer may infer women’s experience of vaginal orgasm from a gait that comprises fluidity, energy, sensuality, freedom, and absence of both flaccid and locked muscles. Results are discussed with regard to previous research on gait, the effect of the musculature on sexual function, the special nature of vaginal orgasm, and implications for sexual therapy.

In all likelihood, you are unaware of the most important facts involving the destructions of the World Trade Center buildings. Nearly all the mainstream information sources and government officials have kept crucial information hidden from the public. This brief article will provide a clear explanation as to what actually happened to the Twin Towers and Building 7 (WTC 7) on September 11, 2001.
Architects & Engineers for 9/11 Truth (AE911Truth) is a non-partisan, non-profit organization now numbering over 800 technical professionals and thousands of other supporters dedicated to exposing the facts that point to the explosive destruction of all three World Trade Center (WTC) high-rises.
We are calling for a new independent investigation empowered to subpoena and question witnesses under oath. Well-documented facts prove the WTC high-rises were destroyed by explosives. The implications are grave, but we ask that you look at the facts. AE911Truth is also concerned that evidence has been distorted and covered up by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), the federal agency assigned to investigate the building collapses.
WTC 7 was a 47-story steel-framed high-rise 100 yards from the North Tower. Even though no airplane hit it, it collapsed rapidly and totally on 9/11, in the manner of a controlled demolition. Despite its suspicious collapse, the 9/11 Commission report does not even mention WTC 7. NIST left its analysis of the WTC 7 collapse until 2008, seven years after the events, long after all the rubble was destroyed. NIST claims WTC 7 collapsed due to “normal office fires” which created a “new phenomenon” in high-rise catastrophes: collapse caused by thermal expansion of beams. NIST claims this caused the failure of a single column – the rest just followed.
NIST Forced to Acknowledge Free-Fall of WTC 7
In August 2008, NIST released the draft of its final report on Building 7. In that draft NIST claims that the building took 40% longer than “free-fall time” to collapse the first 18 stories. In a technical briefing that followed the release of the draft report Shyam Sunder, NIST’s lead investigator, denied that free-fall had occurred and stated that free-fall was incompatible with their analysis. He said, “… a free fall time would be an object that has no … structural components below it…And that is not at all unusual because there was [emphasis in original] structural resistance that was provided in this particular case. And you had … a sequence of structural failures that had to take place and everything was not instantaneous.”
However, one of this article’s co-authors, David Chandler, used video analysis to show conclusively that for 2.5 seconds (about 100 feet) WTC 7 was in complete free-fall. He publicly challenged NIST’s claims at the technical briefing and he, along with others, filed formal requests for corrections.
NIST were forced to reverse themselves in their Final Report and acknowledged 2.25 seconds of absolute free-fall. Yet they did not reconsider how this was compatible with their analysis. A network of heavy steel girders had to be forcibly removed suddenly across the width of the building for eight floors. However, a free-falling object cannot exert force on anything in its path without slowing its own fall, so the structural support had to be removed by something else—explosives. The free-fall of Building 7 is a smoking gun.
World Trade Center – Commonalities in all Three Building Destructions
Complete Destruction Through the Path of Greatest Resistance
NIST claims that the Twin Towers collapsed due to the plane impacts and fire, and that WTC 7 collapsed due to fire alone. However, note that the Twin Towers survived the plane impacts and the jet fuel burned off in the first 10 minutes. Beyond that, all we have are not very large office fires. Over 100 steel framed buildings have suffered major fires, many much worse, yet none have collapsed. All three buildings on 9/11 fell through what should have been the path of greatest resistance – thousands of tons of steel – resulting in total dismemberment. This would require precisely timed removal of critical columns, which office fires cannot accomplish. Furthermore, a small falling top section would destroy itself before it could destroy a larger, stronger, undamaged lower section of the building. The impossible collapse is a smoking gun.
Molten Iron
The temperatures of the fires present a problem for NIST’s claim that fire alone was involved. The melting point of steel is about 2800° F. According to NIST’s own documents, hydrocarbon fires (e.g., jet fuel and office furnishings) generate temperatures only up to about 2,000° F under ideal conditions. NIST recognizes these fires could not melt steel, so they had to postulate elaborate mechanisms that might trigger collapse due to weakened columns and sagging girders.
Yet there is widespread evidence of molten iron in the rubble piles. Photos and numerous witnesses — including fire fighters, cleanup crews, and structural engineers — confirm the existence of several tons of molten metal under the debris. Some fire fighters described molten steel flowing like lava. Photos clearly reveal molten metal dripping as material is being lifted by excavation equipment.
A video of the South Tower shows molten metal pouring out, glowing a radiant orange-yellow. Some have claimed this is molten aluminum, which melts at a lower temperature, but molten aluminum would be silvery in these conditions. This is molten iron or steel.
At least three independent laboratory analyses of the dust that blanketed Lower Manhattan after the destruction of the Twin Towers reveal the presence of iron-rich “microspheres.” These spheres are formed when molten iron is sprayed into the air and forms droplets that cool before hitting the ground. The iron droplets indicate temperatures during the collapses much higher than hydrocarbon fires, in an explosive environment that could spray many tons of these droplets into the air.
In April 2002, the RJ Lee Company was hired to investigate environmental contaminants in the DeutscheBank, across the street from the World Trade Center. It reports, “Many of the materials, such as lead, cadmium, mercury and various organic compounds, vaporized and then condensed during the WTC Event.” The problem here is that lead vaporizes at 3200° F, some 1200° F hotter than is possible in hydrocarbon fires. A study of the WTC dust by the USGS for the EPA observed molybdenum-rich spheres that can form only above 4750° F. The high temperatures are another smoking gun.
Unignited Nano-Thermite in the WTC Dust
NIST did not even look for physical evidence of explosives. In fact NIST did not look at the physical evidence at all, apart from a few selected samples of the steel. The rest was destroyed. However, physical evidence did remain: the dust. NIST did not look at the dust, but independent investigators did. They discovered, along with the microspheres, tiny red-grey chips. They examined samples of WTC dust from different parts of Manhattan. All contained the red-gray chips. They found that the red layer consisted of unignited nano-thermite. Ordinary thermite is an incendiary: it can burn through heavy steel in seconds. The tiny particles in nano-thermite (1/1000 the thickness of a human hair) causes a much faster reaction so it can be used as a high explosive. The discovery of nano-thermite in the WTC dust was published in The Open Chemical Physics Journal in April 2009.
These scientists found not just a smoking gun, but a loaded gun.
Independent lines of evidence prove the official government claims are impossible. We see our role at AE911Truth as exposing the evidence official agencies and the corporate media are covering up. Following up on the implications is the responsibility of every citizen. Every citizen must face his or her own conscience when confronting these difficult facts — especially when we consider that 9/11 is the foundation for two wars, the launching of an endless “war on terror,” and the loss of our freedoms due to legislation pushed through amid the fog of war.
Following Up on the Evidence

I copied this in toto from Cryptogon’s page and want to add my two centimes…I watched all of 09/11 unfold over the ALL-SEEING-EYE over the days and weeks of its occurrence, with all of the breaking news, interviews, man in the streets stuff, dissection, erection, ejaculation, theorization, etc., ad nauseam, and although it took awhile, I came to believe in the above….and couldn’t understand why there was so little support for the idea of this being an inside job, other than the idea that if it was, it was almost too horrific to countenance, and/or remain sane, that such a heinous, callous, psychotic deed could be perpetrated by some of our highest leaders in business and government…A tall fucking order, to accept in your mind that our nation (and the rest of the world, for that matter, because whoever could make this happen operates on a global scale, so-called ‘nations’ and ‘governments’ not withstanding….) is led by a small cabal that have to be alien in nature, unnatural in thinking, if in defining what is ‘human’ is defined as a bi-pedal creature capable of logical thought, susceptible to the higher emotions, like compassion, caring, love, etc., and has opposable thumbs (and is not a monkey of some sort…)…that’s it, not too much to define what a modern ‘human’ should kinda look and think like…yet, the average American can’t countenance the idea that such evility does exist, and is in full force and effect in the highest offices and board rooms in the land, fully embraced by humans that are alien in nature….
It is a reach to accept that, yes, a group of people, mostly old, rich, white men got together, and concocted this scheme, for whatever purpose. I say ‘whatever’ purpose because many purposes were served; distillation of feral fear, division of the populace into managable groups, hatred of entire races, religious belief systems and skin color brought into super-magnified focus and on display, with pride, for all to see (remember ‘Freedom Fries’?), the gross expansion of the military/industrial war machine, the rape and pillage in broad daylight of two somewhat backward countries who were really no threat to anyone but themselves and a couple of neighbors, the creation of all kinds of violations of basic human rights, the re-institution and general acceptance of gratuitous torture, the acceptance of the loss of our children in the kill-zones in Iraq and Afghanistan, the annihilation of a vast swath of the populations of those two countries…..many, many purposes served, one of which was the prolongation of the regime that cobbled this scheme together and put the pieces in motion, meaning Bush and company, which, by being prolonged, was further able to entrench and legitimize the aforementioned war crimes, acts of treason, espionage, human rights violations, thefts, robberies, rapes, etc., etc., etc…..
Yes, it is a reach to get your mind around it, think about it, consider it, wonder how anyone could actually commit the act, much less plan it out, assemble the personnel required, initiate the conversations to determine who was in, who was out, who could be trusted to die with their mouth shut, wouldn’t tell their wife, Mom, brother, girlfriend…gather the elements needed, the thermite in quantities needed, the electrical components, arrange the entry into the buildings after hours, when no one was watching (Bush’s cousin had the World Trade Center security contract prior to the ‘attack’ so infiltration could easily have been arranged…), but then you remember the other Butchers in History, the Hitler’s, the Stalin’s, the Pol Pot’s, men, groups of men and their leaders, who concocted and put into action great schemes of annihilation, annihilation of the ‘different’ and even of the ’same’, by much less sophisticated schemes, and you realize, there are people capable of thinking like this, and given the resources, could certainly have planned and executed such a diabolical plan just because the pay-off was justification enough…I mean, in their thinking, we are the “useless eaters”, according to Dr. Henry Kissinger, mere cannon fodder to be ground under their boot heels as they tromp around the world, collecting their ‘tokens’ of power, be it money, gold bars, land, massive super-yachts, private submarines, vast estates with chateaux, private jets, secret numbered accounts in foreign banks overflowing with digitized wealth, just pieces to be pushed around the board game, or displayed as a prize for having achieved a certain level in the Pacman Game of Life…to these people of elitism and power, we really don’t even register as human to them, as alien as their sociopathic thinking is to us…These are the former slave owners who thought nothing of whipping a slave to death to teach the other slaves to be good niggers, work hard, don’t think of escape, who callously raped their female slaves, broke apart husband and wives and children and parents for profit at slave-sale day, these are the people who thought up eugenics, to abort the ‘different’, to sterilize the retarded, the ugly, the black, the slow so these “useless eaters” couldn’t continue to pollute the gene pool…yet these elitist potentates weren’t above casting their precious seed amongst the local women-folk, using their wealth and power and the threat of destruction to get their way….so, to ascribe to the power people the attritube of sociopathic mass-murderer, given histories examples of recent times, where hundreds and thousands and millions were murdered just because it was the thing to do, is really no stretch at all. These people see themselves as different, select, a cut-above, privileged, and, well, if some people have to die in order to accomplish a particular mission or achieve a particular goal, well, then, goddamit, not a fuckin’ problem!
I mentioned in the beginning of this post that I watched the knowledge box, mesmerized by the spectacle of it all, with the immediate finger-pointing at the brown skinned terror devils ovah’ thar’ in Af-gan-ee-stan, led by some turbaned brainiac name Osama, the genius responsible for all this careful orchestration and complete (almost; one plane did just crash into the Pennsylvania dirt…) and utter victory in ter-roh-rizin’ us Muhrikan’s, completely defeating every Branch of the U.S. Military and every iteration of the (so-called…) Alphabet Soup Intelligence Agencies…and I watched the knowledge box and saw how all the evidence from the sites was trucked out of there as fast as humanly possible, and I started to read (because the knowledge box, i.e., MSM certainly wasn’t saying it or letting it be mentioned…) how similarly the towers falling resembled a controlled demolition of a high-rise building. I mean, what person not living in a cave hasn’t watched on the Discovery Channel just how they do that, where the fucking building collapses into its own footprint? That the explanations for the symmetry of these buildings falling, coupled with Building 7, which was never hit by any plane, but just imploded all on its own, just didn’t make sense? I am not an engineer (although I have worked in commercial construction for most of my life) but I do know, from watching “Megastructures” on the Discovery Channel, and “How Do They Do That?” on the Discovery Channel, that high-rise buildings are actually fucking built to withstand the impact of an airplane! Imagine that! And yet, one plane per building, and both fall and another building not hit by a plane at all, implodes just like a controlled detonation….I mean, I am not an engineer, or a Mensa genius, but please don’t insult my intelligence because I am far from stupid…gullible, wanting to believe the best of others until proven wrong, but not stupid…
And yet, to this day, there is no MSM coverage of the alternative theory, that a massive crime was committed and a vast majority of the American public unable to countenance the idea that their glorious leaders could possibly do such a thing…why, that would be un-American! The success of the indoctrination we receive in our lifetimes is phenomenal! The American Medical Association, the largest body of physicians in the US, said it was in open dialogue with the Obama administration and other government agencies over the role of doctors. “The participation of physicians in torture and interrogation is a violation of core ethical values,” it said.
The most incendiary accusation of PHR’s latest report, Aiding Torture, is that doctors actively monitored the CIA’s interrogation techniques with a view to determining their effectiveness, using detainees as human subjects without their consent. The report concludes that such data-gathering was “a practice that approaches unlawful experimentation”.
Human experimentation without consent has been prohibited in any setting since 1947, when the Nuremberg Code, which resulted from the prosecution of Nazi doctors, set down 10 sacrosanct principles. The code states that voluntary consent of subjects is essential, and that all unnecessary physical and mental suffering should be avoided.
The Geneva conventions also ban medical experiments on prisoners and prisoners of war, which they describe as “grave breaches”.
Under CIA guidelines, doctors and psychologists were required to be present during the use of so-called enhanced interrogation techniques on detainees.”

”Among the treasure trove of documents released on Monday related to the CIA’s detention and torture program is a 20-page background paper that, for the first time, describes in extraordinary detail the process of “rendition” and the torture prisoners are then subjected to when they are flown to “black site” prisons.
The document was turned over to the ACLU in response to the civil liberties group’s Freedom of Information Act lawsuit against the government late on Monday evening along with numerous others, including previously undisclosed Justice Department legal opinions.
The background paper clearly illustrated that the torture of detainees was systematic and micromanaged by the top officials at the CIA, the Justice Department, medical professionals and, likely, the White House. Previously, the CIA had refused to disclose any details of its rendition program, citing state secrets.
That the torture was overseen by medical professionals is a violation of international laws and treaties and, additionally, a breach of numerous professional ethical codes, including the United Nations Principles of Medical Ethics and the Declaration of Tokyo.”

“The December 30, 2004, document was prepared by the CIA for Dan Levin in the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel. The background paper included an unsigned note on the fax cover sheet that said, “Dan, A generic description of the process. Thank you.” “The background paper is a profoundly disturbing document that illustrates, as well as anything could, how far the CIA strayed from the law and from values that are integral to our democracy,” said Jameel Jaffer, director of the ACLU National Security Project. “That the barbaric methods outlined in the paper were approved by the country’s senior-most officials is particularly appalling.”
The background paper reads as an instructional manual for interrogators on how and when to implement the “combined use of interrogation techniques” after a terror suspect is captured and “renditioned” to a “black site” prison in another country.
”The purpose of interrogation is to persuade High-Value Detainees (HVD) to provide threat information and terrorist intelligence in a timely manner, to allow the US Government to identify and disrupt terrorist plots and to collect critical intelligence on al-Qa’ida,” the background paper said. “In support of information previously sent to the Department of Justice, this paper provides additional background on how interrogation techniques are used, in combination and separately, to achieve interrogation objectives …”

“The background paper then describes what happens after a terror suspect is captured and turned over to the CIA. The background paper described this as “rendition.”
“The HVD is flown to a Black Site … A medical examination is conducted prior to the flight,” according to the background paper. “During the flight, the detainee is securely shackled and is deprived of sight and sound through the use of blindfolds, earmuffs, and hoods. There is no interaction with the HVD during this rendition movement except for periodic, discreet assessments by the on-board medical officer. Upon arrival at the destination airfield, the HVD is moved to the Black Site under the same conditions and using appropriate security procedures.”
The so-called “Reception at Black Site” that follows involves a medical assessment and “administrative procedures.” Detainees’ head and faces are then shaved and they are photographed while nude to “document the physical conduction of the HVD.”
”The medical officer also determines if there any contraindications to the use of interrogation techniques.” Contraindications is defined as a pre-existing condition or other factors that would increase the risk of either using a specific drug, carrying out a medical procedure or engaging in a particular activity.
Detainees are then interviewed by psychologists, who prepare reports about detainees’ mental states and if there are any “contraindications to the use of interrogation techniques.”

“The interrogation process, according to the background paper, is broken down into three categories: conditioning techniques, corrective techniques and coercive techniques.
The background report describes the detention conditions detainees are subjected to and states that, while that is not considered an interrogation technique, the conditions of their confinement will have an impact when they are interrogated.
The next phase is referred to as “conditioning techniques,” where a detainee is reduced to a “baseline, dependent state” as a result of a combination of tactics that leaves the detainee feeling he has no control over basic human needs. The “baseline state” is crucial, according to the background report, because it is supposed to make the detainee feel that his welfare is more important than the “information he is protecting.”
The combination of interrogation techniques, approved in Justice Department legal memoranda, to reduce a detainee to a dependent state includes nudity, sleep deprivation and dietary manipulation.
The paper noted that merely introducing these techniques alone won’t bring immediate results. Rather, it’s the repeated use of these techniques and using their combined use “which achieves interrogation objectives.”
Clinical descriptions of how to effectively administer these methods is then described. The background paper said that high-value detainees remain nude for an indefinite period of time. Detainees then are deprived of sleep and are placed in the “vertical shackling position to begin sleep deprivation.”
”Other shackling procedures may be used during interrogations,” the report said. “The detainee is diapered for sanitary purposes, although the diaper is not used at all times.”
“A high-value detainee who, presumably, is uncooperative, then goes through the “corrective techniques” phase, which involves the “insult slap,” “abdominal slap,” “facial hold” and “attention grasp.” The report said these methods are not administered simultaneously during an interrogation, rather they are interchangeable.
The insult slap “is often the first physical technique used with an HVD once an interrogation begins.”
”As noted, the HVD may already be nude, in sleep deprivation and subject to dietary manipulation, even though the detainee will likely feel little effect from these techniques early in the interrogation,” the report said. “The insult slap is used sparingly but periodically throughout the interrogation process when the interrogator needs to immediately correct the detainee or provide a consequence to a detainee’s response or non-response.”
“The interrogator will continually assess the effectiveness of the insult slap and continue to employ it so long as it has the desired effect on the detainee. Because of the physical dynamics of the various techniques, the insult slap can be used in combination with water dousing or kneeling stress positions. Other combinations are possible but may not be practical.”
ME: (you’ve got to admit, it does sound rather scientific…)
The same methods are employed when an interrogator uses the abdominal slap, the attention grasp and the facial hold. The next phase involves what the report called “coercive techniques,” some of which were first disclosed in Justice Department legal opinions released in April. Those methods include, walling, water dousing, stress positions.
Cramped confinement, according to the report and the CIA’s Office of Medical Services, calls for placing a detainee in a large box, no more than eight hours at a time, for “no more than 18 hours a day.” The report also said interrogators can use a small box, no more than two hours at a time, and no more than 18 hours per day.
Because of the “unique” aspects of “cramped confinement,” it cannot be combined with other torture methods. (Me: Really, why the fuck not?!?)

“The process that follows next is a sort of checklist for interrogators or, as the report said, “a day-to-day look” at the interrogation process. Here’s what the report said:
A hooded high-value detainee is taken to the interrogation room and, under the direction of interrogators, is stripped, placed into shackles and positioned with his back to the “walling wall.” Interrogators approach the detainee, place the walling collar over his head and around his neck and stand in front of him.
The detainee’s hood is then removed and the interrogator explains to the prisoner that he will do “whatever it takes to get important information” from him. If the detainee begins to resist he is immediately slapped across his cheek. If that doesn’t work, the prisoner is then slapped on his stomach.
Once it became clear to interrogators that a detainee was “lying, withholding information, or using other resistance techniques,” the interrogator would repeatedly slam the prisoner head first into a wall. Then the detainee would be placed in the center of the interrogation room – nude – diapered, and shackled and deprived of sleep. White noise not exceeding 79 decibels would then be played to as a tool to keep the detainee awake.
”This first interrogation session may last from 30 minutes to several hours based on the interrogators’ assessment of the HVD’s resistance posture,” the background paper said.
Another torture session follows and the time lapse could be as short as one hour or as long as a day. Between the first and second sessions, medical and psychological personnel observing the torture must advise “there are no contraindications to another interrogation session.”
The second round of torture follows the exact same pattern as the first; the detainee is placed in front of the “walling wall” and asked a series of questions and, depending on the answers, is slammed into the wall, slapped on his face and stomach. Except during this session, a detainee who fails to respond in a satisfactory manner is doused with water for several minutes. Stress positions and wall standing are also integrated.
Sleep deprivation and dietary manipulation and white noise are repeated again if a detainee does not provide information his interrogators believe he has. The detainee is nude at all times.
And then the process is repeated for a third time, with the methods and line of questioning becoming more intense. For example, slamming a detainee into a wall would be repeated multiple times. Or, if a detainee placed in a stress position fails to remain in that position, he would be slammed into the wall. The only way for a detainee to stop this brutal treatment, the background paper noted, is by “cooperating with interrogators.”
Interrogators can then decide, after the third round of torture ends, to put a detainee in either a large or small box if it will have “the appropriate effect.”
Sleep deprivation can then continue for five days straight “or possibly beyond for the hardest resisters,” but it cannot exceed 180 consecutive hours.
”Sleep deprivation will end sooner if the medical or psychologist observer finds it necessary,” the background paper noted. “On average, the actual use of interrogation techniques can vary upwards to fifteen days based on the resilience of the HVD.”
If interrogators need to exceed a 30-day preapproved period, the interrogation team would need to submit a new interrogation plan to CIA headquarters in Langley.” (ME: Pussies! wah, he won’t talk, give me permission to degrade and abuse this guy some more!)‘

ME: yes, it is exceedingly strange how complacent and accepting American Society has become about the use of these barbaric, sadistic, sick and unnecessary war crimes to somehow gain some kind of ‘intelligence’ from these poor brown-skinned terror devils. We were horrified when we found out the Nazi’s and the Japanese did this during WWII and tried and hanged many of them for doing much similar things to our guys. We were shocked and horrified when we learned what the Vietnamese did to some of our captured soldiers in their confinement (think John McCain…) but, sadly (or not…), the Viet Cong kicked America’s ass 5 ways from Sunday so we couldn’t hang or execute any of their country’s leaders (although, truth be known, the CIA was out in the Loatian and Combodian woods, torturing and dissolving bodies in acid all through that war, along with running a very valuable heroin business, right along with their ‘intel’ mission…)
But, back to the point, what has changed about America, that we are now so okay with doing these kinds of things to other people, when we detest and deplore its use on our own? Is it skin color, racism at its finest, bigotry, what? I don’t understand…Or, has the all-seeing eye sitting in everyone’s living room thoroughly indoctrinated us to believe that everyone can get shot 10 times and still survive, that your gun never runs out of bullets, everyone recovers from severe beatings, sleep deprivation and mental tortures with mind, soul and body intact? Is that it, the indoctro-box has inoculated our brains now to the point where we just don’t give a shit?
Thankfully, for me, I still give a shit and am glad I do…I believe we are better than this and that the promulgators and approvers of these kinds of depraved, deviant illegal acts should pay for their lawlessness, doing time for doing the crime, just as we are all taught from childhood…you break the law and get caught, your ass is going to jail…let’s hope.

worth a re-print as it is so telling how really okay society seems to be with all this torturin’ and whatnot…I had been wanting to write about this again after a read of something from Truthout, but I have gotten addicted to “Mafia Wars” on Facebook…yeah, sad, I know…so, I haven’t been keeping up with ”the state of the world” here lately…
But I had read how Cheney is fixing to blow some curcuits over Holder doing some investigations into the torture program and Cheney is now calling it a “political witch-hunt”…Of course, Cheney was around back in Nixon’s day and was a true believer in the Nixon credo that “if the President did it it was legal” and the Nuremburg defense “that I was only following orders….” Well, history can tell us how well those two defenses worked….Nixon resigned in disgrace and many Nazi’s hanged or imprisoned for war crimes….Cheney certainly doesn’t want Obama/Holder digging under too many of his rocks because eventually one of his tools is going to roll up on him and sing like Sinatra…
